Sometimes you just gotta tell your soul to find its hope in God again.
This one feels a little more vulnerable because it came from a vulnerable place. Here's a piece of what I wrote in my journal from the day that sparked the song:
"Lord, my heart hurts. Meet with me here today. Speak to my heart like only You can. Give me a reason to keep going. Give me a song to sing through the storm. Jesus, I acknowledge that I need You. I recognize that You're with me. Why, in this moment is that not enough?"
Then the Lord heard me and spoke into the hurt of that moment, like He always does. He gave me words to sing to Him - words to sing over myself. He reminded me that He was with me and that not only could I lay my burdens at His feet, but He had also specifically placed people around me to help me carry them so I don't have to do it alone.
He brought me to the words of Psalm 42 that I had been reflecting on just a week before, "Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation." (Psalm 42:5)
This song, having root in the words of that Psalm, became a reminder to me that there is ALWAYS hope and it's found in the name of Jesus. And it also reminds me that sometimes, like the psalmist, you just gotta tell your soul to find its hope in God again.
