SONG NO. 11

// My Father Says //

[December 12, 2016]

I got to hear Christine Caine speak at a church event not too long ago and it stirred something in my heart that led to this song. She spoke about the story of humanity’s fall in Genesis 3. After Adam and Eve had been deceived into sin by the serpent in the garden of Eden and realized their nakedness, they felt shame and hid from God. When God met them and spoke with them, He asked them, “Who told you that you were naked?” Rather than a voice of condemnation, we find a Father who lovingly disciplines and covers our shame. (Genesis 3:21)

The same can be true with us - we are constantly bombarded with lies from the enemy, from other people, and a lot of times from ourselves. Believing these lies most often leads us to feelings such as shame and guilt.

How can we fight off the lies that enter our minds? We have to be so in tune with what God says about us that the second a lie tries to make its way in, we are able to run from it and cling to what is true about us instead.

Who told you that you’re not worthy?
Who told you that you’re not good enough?
Who told you that you’re defined by your past mistakes?
God surely didn’t.

The single most important voice in your life is the voice of Your Father in heaven. He is the One who spoke your very life into existence - whatever He says about you must be true.

May we choose to believe what God says about us over anything contrary.

lyrics

Verse 1:
Who told me I had to hide in fear and shame?
When You told me to rest and trust Your holy name
A thousand voices vying for my attention
But the only voice I need shouts my redemption

Chorus 1:
My Father says I am holy
My Father says I am loved
My Father says I’m a new creation
My Father says I’m enough

Even when the world says different
That’s not the voice I’m listening to
I will still choose to believe
The words that my Father says
My Father says I am His

Verse 2:
No longer does darkness hide me through the night
A voice stronger than death has breathed, “let there be light”
My soul will not be bound by lies of the enemy
My life is built on truth that sets my heart free

Bridge:
I will take You at Your word
Trusting what You say above all the noise
I will choose to believe truth declared over me
All I am is Yours

For You spoke the world into motion
And You spoke my life just the same
So I will choose to believe truth You speak over me
All I am is Yours
